CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION
A tall handsome tree developing a buttressed trunk with age, and a spreading crown. Medium green leaves are shining and have 8 pairs of bluntly toothed shallow teeth around upper two-thirds of their margin. The male flowers can have scarlet anthers which make it very showy in early summer. Occurs naturally in the North Island, and north of Marlborough and Greymouth in the South Island. Occurs in lowland and lower montane forests, sea-level to 900 mt. Hardy and grows in a wide range of conditions. Great speciemen tree.
