Nothofagus menziesii.
A handsome tree often developing a buttressed trunk with age, and a broad round-headed crown. Medium green leaves are small, shining and ovate. Occurs naturally in the North Island, south of Thames and common in the South Island except for the East. Occurs in lowland to montane and subalpine scrub. Hardy and grows in a wide range of conditions, including exposed sites. Great speciemen tree.
