Metrosideros carminea
This liane when grown from seed will cling to a support to reach higher light levels.Once there it develops its adult foliage and flowers. When propagated as an adult plant it forms a low growing spreading shrub with small shiny green leaves on stiff branchlets. Masses of bright carmine flowers appear in spring. Eyecatching! It needs a site sheltered from frost, in sun or semi-shade. Will not thrive in dry soils. Will cascade over rocks or walls.
