Metrosideros bartlettii
Tall upright tree. It will also grow in open sunny ground, though may not reach the same heights. It has dark green oval leaves on erect branches. Dense clusters of white flowers appear in summer. Occurs naturally in the northern part of the North Island, only found in 1977. Protect from frost when young. Prefers good soil, but will grow in most soils. Avoid very dry sites.
