Melicytus
Compact twiggy shrub has thick tapering grey speckled branches which bear clusters of small dark green oval shaped leaves. Its bell shaped flowers are very inconspicuous, underneath the branches. Its fruit appears in late summer until early winter in the form of small bright white berries. It is endemic to both the North and South Island where it is typically found along coastal lowlands in open scrub areas, cliff faces, stable sand dunes as well as river flats. It is very hardy and ideal for windy situations. Very drought tolerant once established. Does best in open, sunny and free draining soils.
