Kniphofia thompsonii
Compact, evergreen, clump-forming, rhizomatous perennial. Upright habit, keel-shaped leaves are a glaucous blue green and showy spikes of orange flowers. Flowers bloom primarily from late spring to early summer, with some continued bloom to late summer or early fall. Flowers have nectar for birds.This Kniphofia, the only alpine in the genus, is an East African species that occurs up to about 13,000 ft on Mount Kilimanjaro. This plant usually favors damp soil, but can also grow in fairly dry situations. Best in a sunny site.
