CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION
Southernmost tree fern with a slender trunk covered with a dense, fibrous mass of aerial roots, topped with numerous horizontal fronds up to 2 metres long. The upper surface is bright, fresh green, the lower surface is paler. The trunk is usually clothed with dead fronds. Prefers a site shetered from drying winds and with overhead shade, though can be grown in the open. Best grown in cool moist sites. Occurs naturally in damp lowland to montane forests throughout New Zealand.
