Cyathea dealbata
Distinctive tree fern with a stout trunk, topped with numerous horizontal fronds up to 3 metres long. The upper surface is is shining and green, the lower surface is covered with a distinctive silvery-white bloom. The trunk is usually clothed with dead fronds. Tends to grow slowly. Prefers a site shetered from drying winds and with overhead shade, though can be grown in the open. Once established it does tolerate dry conditions. Occurs naturally in lowland to montane forests throughout New Zealand.
