Metrosideros robusta 'Rangitoto Island.'
In native forest this plant is an epiphyte and develops into a tall upright tree. It will also grow in open sunny ground, though may not reach the same heights. It has dark green oval leaves on erect branches. Dense clusters of crimson red flowers appear November to January. An excellent form selected by Graeme Platt on Rangitoto Island. Tolerates cold, though shelter from frost when young. Prefers good soil, but will grow in most soils. Avoid very dry sites.
