Cotinus coggygria 'Golden Spirit'
Large colourful shrub with long erect branches. Spectacular foliage emerges lime green and matures to brilliant gold and then coral, orange and red in Autumn. Smoke-like plumes of whitish-pink flowers add interest in summer. Hardy, great for dry sites. Semi-shade best. The foliage will not scorch in the sun unless conditions are extremely dry. Grows in a range of soil types, must be well drained.
This outstanding three season specimen should become a featured focal point. Use in shrub borders for late season interest. Provide unique effects against evergreens and perennials in mixed beds. A fine foundation plant to highlight important points in the architecture, entries and windows. Excellent choice for adding background interest to fountains and water gardens. Worth considering for accenting stark mid-century modern landscapes or adding depth to Craftsman home gardens.
