Phyllocladus alpinus.
Small native conifer tree with crowded green to glaucous foliage made up of phylloclades or flattened stems acting as leaves. A very interesting distinctive tree with whorled branches and a symmetrical habit. Thought to have a Gondwanan origin. Occurs naturally in subalpine and montane forest and shrub. Nut like black seeds. Prefers a good soil with adequate moisture and some shelter to get established. Very cold hardy.
