CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION
A handsome tree often developing a buttressed trunk with age, and a broad round-headed crown. Medium green leaves are small, shining and ovate. The male flowers have scarlet anthers which make it very showy in spring. Occurs naturally in the North Island, and common in mountain districts of the South Island. Occurs in montane to subalpine forests and scrub. Hardy and grows in a wide range of conditions, including exposed sites. Great speciemen tree.
