Magnolia laevifolia
(Syn. Michelia yunnanensis) Large bushy shrub with attractive rounded mid-green leaves, backed by brown tomentum. Gives an interesting texture in the garden. Masses of tulip shaped fragrant large cream flowers in early spring, with a smaller flush in autumn. Prefers a sheltered site with good soil, though will grow in dry conditions once established. Excellent as a specimen or trimmed as a hedge. Hardy to cold.
