Macropiper excelsum. 'Psittacorum'
Dense, rounded shrub with large shiny, thick leaves that are glossy and a deep green and are less prone to insect damage than the plain form. Tiny green flowers on spikes will appear in winter or early summer. An attractive plant, well worth the effort of cultivating. It does best in semi-shade in a free draining but moist soil. Once established can tolerate considerable drought. Frost Tender. Naturally occurs on Kermadec Islands (Raoul Island). Also Norfolk and Lord Howe Islands.
