Geranium macrorrhizum 'Ingwersen's Variety'
Rhizomatous semi-evergreen perennial which forms a thick, weed-resistant ground cover. Deeply lobed and rounded, grayish-green leaves. Leaves are strongly aromatic when crushed. Leaves have attractive red and orange tones in autumn. Long-lasting pale pink petals and contrasting deep pink calyces appear above the leaves in late spring to early summer, often with some sporadic rebloom occurring throughout summer. Very hardy in most conditions. 'Ingwersens Variety' was found in 1929 by Walter Ingwersen, while on a hiking expedition to Mount Koprivinik, Yugoslavia. It won the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1993.
