Fuchsia excorticata
Small tree with a wide spreading habit. Long medium-green leaves have distinctive silvery undersides. It gives lovely colours in Autumn. As the trunk develops the tree has wonderful light brown peeling bark. In spring and summer it has interesting green and purple flowers providing nectar for the birds, followed by purple-black berries. These can be collected for jam. Prune lower branches off as tree matures. Avoid heavy frost. Sun or semi-shade. Known to be fire-resistant.
