Dysoxylum spectabile
Endangered native tree once common in lowland forests and coastal areas. Attractive glossy bright green pinnate leaves, unlike any of our other native plants. Clusters of cream flowers appear from the branches or trunk in summer, known as cauliflorous, follwoed by red fruits. It is frost tender and grows best in deep moist soil in a sheltered site. Once abundant in coastal and lowland forests in the North Island and Marlborough.
