Carmichaelia stevensonii
A small tree endemic to the river gorges in Marlborough where it grows best in loamy or alluvial soils, never far from streams. The branches are ascending then pendulous at the tips. Long racemes of pale rosy purple flowers in December or January. One of our most beautiful native trees. Hardy, though must have well drained soil. Allow space for it to grow into its natural shape.
