Acer palmatum 'Atropurpurem'
Medium, rounded, deciduous tree with dense, arching branching. Very dark red, almost black-red leaves. Red flowers bloom in pendant racemes in spring. Flowers give way to winged samaras. Excellent brilliant scarlet red Autumn colour. Hardy to cold, though needs a sheltered site with good soil to reach it's full potential. An elegant graceful tree, ideal for a courtyard, or in a woodland garden.
